The following are members of the March Podiatry Practice key staff. If you have any questions or issues to raise, please contact one of the below.
Sarah-Jane Hooper - BSc (HONS)
Podiatrist
Sarah-Jane qualified from the University of Brighton in 1998. She has since worked both within the NHS in Cambridgeshire and for a London private practice that specialises in sports injuries and biomechanics. She has gained a broad range of experience and specialist knowledge in most aspects of podiatry including diabetes, rheumatology and arthritis, child foot health and gait abnormalities. She is also a firm believer in further training and indeed is the course organiser of the London Postgraduate Study Group. Of course she is well qualified for all the regular day to day foot care problems too.
Liz Barker (Currently on long term leave)
Chartered Physiotherapist
Having initially completed a Sports Science degree from Nottingham Trent University, Liz worked in Sports Development for several years promoting physical activity and public health; part of this role involved delivering exercise rehabilitation in a gym setting. Whilst working she went back to university to study part time for a Physiotherapy degree, which she successfully completed gaining a first class honours degree from the University of Hertfordshire.
Her time in the NHS was spent in the community working with predominantly older people in rehabilitation and also working to prevent falls. At the same time Liz also began working privately seeing a wide range of mainly musculoskeletal complaints. At the beginning of 2007 she left the NHS to work solely as a private practitioner, holding clinics at her practice in Cambridge as well as at March Podiatry Practice.
Coming from a Sports Science background it is in sport that my main area of interest lies, and she has worked as Cambridge Rugby Clubs physiotherapist for several years. Liz has experience working with athletes at a variety of levels from recreational to elite, in not only rugby, but athletics, triathlon, dance, hockey and cricket.
In addition to sports injuries, she does treat many patients with a range of other complaints, due to postural problems, occupational injuries, or over-use injuries.
Liz provides physiotherapy treatment and advice to patients of all ages, from all backgrounds, to include strengthening work before or after surgery.
Philip Young
Sports and Remedial Massage Practitioner
Philip trained as a practitioner, to the highest level at the London School of Sports Massage.
Philip provides a professional and ethical service to patients for a wide range of problems. Although Sports and Remedial massage can be used with great benefit in isolation, many patients have this therapy in conjunction with and to complement their other treatments.
In addition to his L.S.S.M. diploma, Philip has attended a number of workshops and courses as part of his ongoing professional development to learn new techniques to enhance his treatments. These include basic biomechanics, advanced specialist massage techniques to include Myo-fasial release techniques, plus postural analysis and evaluation of peripheral joints. Philip, like all staff at the practice has a valid first aid and basic life support certificate.
Philip is a keen runner, participating in athletics for many years and also holds a UK athletics level 3 qualification as a running coach.
